Skilled Nursing at Catholic Eldercare, Albert J. Hofstede Care Center

817 Main Street NE | Minneapolis, 55413

The Catholic Eldercare, Albert J. Hofstede Care Center in Minneapolis, MN, offers 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents of all faiths enjoy comfortable, semi-private rooms with spacious shared bathrooms. The rooms are generously sized, offering ample room for treasured mementos and residents' favorite personal furnishings. The unique room design ensures that residents' need for privacy is respected.

Unlike traditional nursing homes, our interdisciplinary team of skilled nursing caregivers collaborates with each resident, the resident's family, and the resident's physician to develop and coordinate an ideal, individualized care plan. Each individual plan is designed with the utmost consideration for the resident's needs and wishes. Residents benefit from assigned personal aides, a commitment which strengthens the caregiver/resident relationship, and enhances the staff's understanding of the resident's wants and needs. Catholic Eldercare also offers MnemeTherapy, if desired or needed by residents. This therapy program uses movement, singing, painting and other creative activities to stimulate dramatic changes in the brain. With MnemeTherapy, many have shown improvement in verbal skills, mobility, spatial acuity, and other important areas.

Residents also enjoy a variety of superior everyday services. These include a five meal a day dietary plan, a system enjoyed by elders who typically prefer smaller, more frequent meals; pastoral caregivers on each floor; optional masses at St. Anthony of Padua Church; chapel; a sunroom with library; a formal dining room for meals; an intimate cafe area on each floor; a gathering area with TV on each floor; and a fully-stocked craft room.

In addition, residents can take part in a number of available activities. Our regular activities include exercise classes; games, bingo and cards; word games, crossword puzzles, trivia and the like; arts and crafts; birthday celebrations; movies; weekly dances with live music; singalongs; in-house library; intergenerational programs; staff-facilitated reminisce groups; baking; the "Men's Club"; and various cultural awareness activities.

Catholic Eldercare also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year for residents to enjoy. A few examples include visits from petting zoos; an annual bazaar and bake sale; restaurant "innings," where local restaurants (including Marino's and many others) bring selections from their menu to the facility for residents' meals; theme dinners and other themed events; and voting days for absentee balloting.
