October 7, 2010 (Thurs.): “Magnificent Melodies: The Piano Music of Felix Mendelssohn”
Instructor: Dr. Suzanne Schons

This single lecture will present an overview of the beautiful and engaging piano works of composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), including live performances of numerous works. The musical, social, cultural, and political contexts in which he composed will be discussed, as well as how Mendelssohn himself has influenced other musicians.
Suzanne Schons, Ph.D., is on the music faculty of the University of St. Thomas, where she teaches courses in piano and piano pedagogy. She also enjoys teaching piano to children and adults, performing, and giving presentations on music.
